The Paint Box, a fictional story situated in Renaissance Venice, is based on the historical person, Marietta Tintoretto.

I travelled to Venice and to Tintoretto’s home to research the story. Photos from this journey were combined with the finished paintings to express elements of realism. Some of the rougher sketches seen here represent ideas from before the trip to Venice. The more detailed drawings were made after the trip.
